DIY: Upcycle Your Old Shoes Into Beautiful Planters!

Do you have an old pair of boots or shoes? Don’t throw them out, upcycle them into beautiful planters!  Here are a few DIY ideas!

Simple Flower Planters
Estimated Time: 10-15 Minutes
Supplies You Will Need:
Drill, Rocks, Newspaper, Gardening Gloves, Tape Measurer,
Pair of Old Boots or Shoes, Flowers of Your Choice.

First, measure the opening of your footwear. You will want to buy plants that come in a pot this size. Ours measured 6 inches across, so we will want to look for plants that come in a 6in plastic pot/container.

Second, very carefully drill a couple of drainage holes in the bottom of your boots. If your boot contains a steel shank or a steel toe, drill your holes along the bottom side of the boot, staying 3-4 inches away from the toe area.

Next, fill the entire foot area of the boot with rocks. This will make the boot more stable and less likely to tip over on windy days. You will then want to stuff the leg of the boot with newspaper until you are 4-5 inches from the top of the boot.

Lastly, place your premeasured plants right in the top of the boot so the pot is fully hidden in the boot.

Herb Garden
Estimated Time: 15-25 Minutes
Supplies You Will Need:
Drill, Rocks, Dirt, Gardening Gloves, Box Cutter,
Pair of Old Boots or Shoes, Herbs of Your Choice.

First, very carefully drill a couple of drainage holes in the bottom of your boots. If your boot contains a steel shank or a steel toe, drill your holes along the bottom side of the boot, staying 3-4 inches away from the toe area.

You will then take your box cutter knife and cut out small 3-4 in holes (in the foot area) or 3-4 in long slices in the leg area to place your herbs.

Next, fill the entire foot area of the boot with dirt and plant just your toe area plants.

You can then place some rocks in the ankle area of the boot to give the boot more weight and stability. After you weigh your boot down, you can put plants in the calf portion of your boot.

Lastly, fill the remaining space in the boot with loose dirt and plant your final top plant.

You can also follow these steps using other plants such as strawberry plants or succulents!

Boss is proud to help when disaster strikes.

Boss Gloves was there to help during the recovery efforts after a tornado ripped through Elk City, Oklahoma.   The tornado caused severe damage in the area and at least one death. It was estimated that twenty to thirty Elk City area homes and businesses suffered damage.

Rene Soto, Owner of Aztec Safety Solutions & Supplies, worked with the American Red Cross to assess the damage and serve hot meals to the victims.  They also discussed appropriate personal protection equipment for the clean-up such as the Boss gloves 1JM500 and 1JM600 as well as high visibility safety vests.

“I want to thank Rene for his partnership & allowing Boss to be a part of this tornado disaster clean up. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those whose lives & families were effected.”  Robin Danielson, Territory Sales Manager

Two Trophies in One Day

Last week, Boss Manufacturing attended the 2017 IDC-USA Product Forum in Reno, NV. The week began with the annual IDC Charitable Trust Golf Tournament at Lakeridge Golf Course. Proceeds from the event go to furthering education in young adults. There were approximately 25 foursomes to participate in the event. Bryan Kubiak from Boss and his team finished 5 under par to clinch 1st Place awards consisting of a trophy, a dry fit polo shirt, and a dozen golf balls!

A supplier trade show was scheduled following the golf tournament. At the show there were 44 preferred suppliers in attendance, each having their own booth displays. Also attending were sixty IDC owner-distributors. They walked the show floor and were asked to vote on both vendor booth appearance and product presentation in which Boss won the 2017 Best Booth Award!

Celebrating Safety Week with JE Dunn Construction and Aztec Safety Solutions & Supplies

Boss Gloves participated in the Safety Week for JE Dunn Construction together with Aztec Safety Solutions & Supplies. The day started with an early morning breakfast at the project site located on the beautiful campus of the University of Oklahoma in Norman. After breakfast employees of JE Dunn and Aztec Safety were able to try on various types of Boss personal protective equipment ranging from different glove styles to high visibility safety vests. While trying on the Boss gear, participants shared their needs and feedback with the Boss team. Those in attendance were also offered the chance to win some great prizes!

“Throughout the week we accomplished many things including; have fun in creating excitement about safety, review important training topics & procedures that will safely mitigate daily hazards in our industry, reinforce and empower staff with Stop Work Authority, and engage individuals to create a personal commitment toward their safety and the safety of those around them,” Stated Jason Bishop, Senior Project Manager at JE Dunn Construction.
“We’re off to a great start on the project and feel confident that this week has helped reinforce the commitment to see everyone go home safely each day,” Bishop continued. “With this said, we did want to relay our appreciation and humbly request that everyone stay engaged in their continued communication going forward on site. If we can all put safety first in our communication to our staff on the front lines, we can create the positive behavioral based safety we’re trying to achieve.”

“Building partnerships while educating and providing the right personal protective equipment is our main goal here at Boss Manufacturing. My sincerest thank you again to Rene Soto from Aztec Safety Solutions and Supplies, LLC as well as the entire team at JE Dunn Construction for inviting Boss and me to participate in your Safety Week!” ~Robin Danielson, Territory Sales Manager
