Northwest Pipe Fittings & Boss Gloves Contribute to Auto Extraction Rescues

Bob Barbour instilled the core vales of Northwest Pipe Fittings early on by providing customers with excellent service, a wide variety of products, and a knowledgeable staff. Northwest Pipe Fittings’ product offering includes pipes, valves, fittings, plumbing fixtures, well pumps and supplies, hydronic heating equipment, and more recently, turf irrigation products.

Additionally, Barbour believed that the company should be involved in the communities they served. Northwest Pipe employs 44 people and has been a supporter of the local community in various ways over the. years, with involvement in various things at Ellsworth AFB, Mt. Rushmore, Economic Development, Western Dakota Tech, and the Chamber of Commerce. Other local involvements include supporting the United Way, Storybook Island, Children’s Home Society, and various other non-profit organizations in the area.

Brian Lore, Northwest Pipe’s Purchasing Manager, also serves as Fire Chief for Minatare/Melbeta Fire & Rescue. Lore was introduced to the Boss 1JM750 last year as an amazing new glove for heavy construction and pipe fitting. Recently, Lore noticed that his fire & rescue team needed better hand protection against sharp metal and glass. Due to the 1JM750’s abrasion and cut resistant palm, he thought his team could benefit from its use during auto extraction emergencies. On top of these features, the 1JM750 also offers impact protection, and its high-vis yellow color makes it a great choice for emergency situations. The Minatare/Melbeta Fire and Rescue Team are now using them regularly. Lore says “They perform very well in all conditions – wet and dry. We are very happy and impressed with their performance.”IMG_0082

Oregon Couple Finds Unique Use for Boss Gloves

Six years ago, Perla and Bill Pearce packed up their life in Tucson, Arizona, and moved north to Bend, Oregon. Even though they were leaving the southwest behind, they weren’t ready to leave the flavor of it. So, they went ahead and brought with them their gourmet salsa company.

With its close proximity to the border, Arizona isn’t short on Mexican-style cuisine or salsa—but moving to Bend came with some new challenges and opportunities. For starters, an untapped market and a new client base that may not understand that salsa isn’t just for tacos and burritos.

“Salsa is a condiment that goes with just about everything,” explains Perla. “From our morning eggs to sandwiches, wraps, salads, on burgers and steaks.”

Currently, Bill and Perla have nine flavors ranging from the mild Fire Roasted Mango for the fruit enthusiast, to the Hot Holy Moly for those “local pepper heads.” One of the challenges for Perla and Bill was finding a glove to use during the manufacturing process. That’s where the Boss® DYNEE white™ came in.

“These gloves are the best we could find and we will continue to use them as long as we are in business. Not only are they comfortable, but they’re also cut resistant to protect our hands while slicing tomatoes and peppers, and their heat resistance and grip helps when placing lids on the hot glass jars (about 190˚) during processing.”

If you’re interested in purchasing salsa from Southwest Salsa Company, you can buy it on their website: www.southwestsalsaco.com

FLOTUS Plants Last Garden in Boss Gloves

On Tuesday, for the eighth year in a row, Michelle Obama planted the White House Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn. The annual tradition started in 2009, which helped launch a conversation about healthy eating and ultimately the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative.

In 2011, Mrs. Obama began another trend– wearing Boss garden gloves! After President Obama gifted the First Lady a pair of green Boss® Dirt Diggers™, they quickly became her garden glove of choice. The First Lady also went on to write about the gloves in her book American Grown describing the green color as a cheery reminder of spring.

Boss® Boots Used in Hurricane Katrina Rescues

Last month marked 10 years since the devastating Hurricane Katrina ripped through our nation, causing death and destruction in 7 states. The storm was directly responsible for 1,170 fatalities in Louisiana alone, and that doesn’t include the nearly 500 evacuees who died of uncertain causes.
While most people were evacuating the area, there were some brave souls who stayed behind to protect their property and rescue those in need. Stephen J. Ford is one of those people. (more…)
