On Tuesday, for the eighth year in a row, Michelle Obama planted the White House Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn. The annual tradition started in 2009, which helped launch a conversation about healthy eating and ultimately the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative.

The First Lady also went on to write about the gloves in her book American Grown describing the green color as a cheery reminder of spring.
